Jon and his associates have worked on innumerable projects with many clients over the years. Below is a selection of some notable past pieces of work involving mainly Jon.
Making UK government procurement more ‘SME friendly’
Jon worked with a close knit team of small and medium sized enterprise owners in tandem with a team of top civil servants over four years. There were several outcomes of this work including in particular a self assessment tool to assist government purchasers to get better value from public contracts. You can see the tool here (Cabinet Office)
Development of policy through citizen insight
Jon was asked to gather together the views of members of the public into the role and function of police community support officers. He did this by advising on and facilitating a number of public focus groups and analysing their views. His resulting report was presented to the Minister concerned with developing the legislation around the role of these officers. (Home Office)
Future focused strategy event for a complex professional body
After careful design, preparation and communication, Jon worked with the 2009 ITA conference to take stock of their past, investigate present pressures and convert their vision of the future into strategic actions (Institute of Transactional Analysis)
Bring stakeholders together in a joint plan
Jon was called on to assist with optimising the investment in new outdoor play spaces for young children to make play safer and more attractive. Jon designed, facilitated and reported on an event designed to gain the support and insights of a range of ‘safeguarding’ agencies (Playshaper)
Tackling gun and knife crime
This project included designing and facilitating two large interactive conferences to enable policy makers, community activists, practitioners and young people to work together in pursuit of common solutions. There were a number of outcomes, not least a streamlined funding process to support community groups focused on crime reduction. (Home Office)
Courts and Justice reform
Jon led on the organisation of a high profile transAtlantic seminar which investigated and supported the development of new forms of justice administration in the UK. The report is available here. (Ministry of Justice & the Center for Court Innovation, NYC)
Structural review
The task was to carry out an independent review of this organization and make recommendations for the future. The Home Office and Association of Police & Crime Commissioners were tasked with the challenge of taking matters forward. (Independent Custody Visiting Association)
Investigating Culture change
This involved working in close partnership with the organisation to get inside the culture and how elements were helping or hindering performance. (LB Islington)
‘Time travel’ and Developing Strategy
Running a series of ‘future focus groups’ to examine local and national projected trends. Using the results to create artefacts (such as newspapers, retirement speeches, maps or school projects) from ten years hence, these were used to stimulate and guide strategic thinking. (West Mercia Police)
Open Space & Women’s Development
Over a small number of days bringing together nearly 1000 women from one organisation to address how the organisation’s future should change so as to optimise the use of all the talents, regardless of gender. (Metropolitan Police)
Refreshing practice
Facilitating a ‘seven shaped’ meeting (all the top team and a diagonal slice of staff from other levels) of managers, practitioners and clients to redesign a critical business process that would have far reaching impact on the customers of that service (HMRC)
