Jess is a freelance visual scribe / illustrator / producer / facilitator and photographer, working within the public, charitable and private sectors.
Since becoming freelance in 2011 (after quickly realising that she wasn’t really suited to the more traditional 9-5 working environment), the majority of her time has been spent working as a Visual Scribe with organisations to visually capture the content being presented and discussed at conferences / events / meetings / strategy and away days. The primary aim being, to help synthesise
and visualise key and emerging themes of the day; encompassing not only what was being presented/discussed, but also capturing the essence of how it felt to be part of that discussion. Helping those present to keep momentum when returning back to “the office”, to bring about the changes and ideas discussed. This visual summary of a day, not only holds value in what is captured, but also how. You can see examples of some of her work here.
She also spends a lot of her time producing animations; and has done a lot of work within the health sector, for organisations like The Kings’ Fund, working on their “alternative guide” series, The Royal College of Physicians, as well as numerous NHS Trusts. You can see more examples of her animation work here.
The rest of her time has been spent working on more bespoke illustration and photography projects: including illustrations for Jon Harvey’s book Cracking Questions, working with the Ashmolean Museum to photograph their Live Friday events, and other smaller miscellaneous projects.
Jess is above all else curious. And revels in any opportunity to learn more about an organisation and the people in it. Her work allows her to often be part of incredibly transformative conversations, meeting a plethora of inspiring individuals and teams.
So far, Jess has had the pleasure of working with Mind, The Who Cares Trust, The Kings’ Fund, The Ashmolean Museum, The Royal College of Physicians, Central and North West London NHS Trust, Health Education West Midlands, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, Food Standards Agency, Oxford City Council, Engineers Without Borders, The University of Birmingham, Imperial College London, Google, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, Nationwide, Capita, Vodafone, General Electric, Symantec, Siemens, e.on, ITW, CIPR and Deloitte to cherry pick a few….
